Jersey City Birds Art Show Returns to the Barrow Mansion

A young boy looks at an array of bird photographs and drawings. He is participating in a kid's scavenger hunt: looking for specific birds to check off on a list.

The Barrow Mansion and local birding organization Jersey City Birds are teaming up to create a weekend-long celebration of Jersey City’s diverse bird population — and celebrating the people who love them.

The weekend will kick off with the JC Birds Art Show on June 20th. Featuring more than 100 photographs, paintings, drawings, and sculptures of local birds from local bird enthusiasts, this show is a visible demonstration of the many species of birds populating the backyards of JC — as well as the marshes and shorelines of places like Liberty State Park and Lincoln Park. This is a non-juried, open exhibition, meaning that “all you need is a camera and a bird to participate,” says someone or other. Featuring photographs and art from adults and children, amateurs and semi-professionals, this show is a wonderful showcase of people’s love for local birds.

On Saturday, June 21st, bring the kids for the JC Birds Feathered Friend Family Day. Beginning at 1pm, this will give kids an opportunity to participate in a photo scavenger hunt of the art show, while learning more about the local birds in their neighborhood. There will also be craft tables and other kid-friendly activities.

“We’re excited to have JC Birds back at the Barrow Mansion,” said Meredith Kennedy, president of the board of the Barrow Mansion. “They’re a wonderful local organization and we’re proud to partner with them so more people can learn about the important work they do.”

Both events are free and open to everyone.
